What are adaptogens?
Adaptogens are plants that help the body adapt or modulate stress; this includes physical, emotional, biological and chemical. These botanicals help balance, restore and assist the body in numerous physiological functions. Working on the HPA axis they can modulate cortisol output, enhance fertility, improve stamina and support the immune function. Use of adaptogenic herbs dates back hundreds of years and it seems that many cultures on different continents have their own adaptogenic herb that has its own function. - Ashwagandha
Also known as Indian Ginseng this herb is known for its ability to modulate stress, reduce anxiety and blood glucose levels, as well as enhance male fertility to name a few.
- Astraqalus

This adaptogen contains many anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. Due to these properties, Holy Basil is thought to produce some anti-aging benefits. In addition, this adaptogen has cognitive enhancing and mood modulating abilities.
- Maca
This herb that is native to Peru and the Andes Mountains is known to increase libido, balance hormones, modulate stress and increase energy. Packed with many nutrients this herb is a favorite for many.
- Panax
Panax ginseng, probably the most well know adaptogen, this is also used extensively in Chinese Medicine. Technically, there are two types one that is from Asia and one for North America, with similar but slightly different properties. Panax is known for its ability to increase work capacity, modulate stress and improve working memory performance.
- Rhodiola
Found in the northern regions of Europe, Asian and North America, this arctic adaptogen is used for its ability to combat fatigue, enhance physical performance and reduce stress. Rhodiola is also thought to balance neurotransmitters.
